IPKeys announced today it will make available at the DistribuTECH 2012 Conference in San Antonio, TX from January 24-26, 2012 an open source OpenADR 2.0a server or virtual top node (VTN). IPKeys will demonstrate EIOS and interoperability with software and hardware from other OpenADR Alliance members in booth 1430. Those interested in obtaining EIOS executables and/or sources may do so at https://pmo.ipkeys.com/EIOS after January 23, 2012.

What is EIOS?

EIOS is an open source implementation of the EiEvent service found in the OpenADR 2.0 Profile of the OASIS Energy Interop™ 1.0 standard. EIOS is intended for utilities and others interested in a rapid “first look” at the OpenADR 2.0 standard without need to license commercial software. This standard was created in alignment with federal Smart Grid efforts to provide a single, open standard for energy related communications. This work is based in part on research conducted under NIST contract SB134110CN0148. The IPKeys Energy Interop Open Source (EIOS) system uses a Service-Oriented Architecture. EIOS uses loosely coupled web based services to provide various capabilities (services) to the users.

EIOS Features

  • A web portal to allow users to create and modify an account, subscribe to a price feed, demand response (DR) events, set a participation schedule and perform OPT IN/OUT.
  • An administrative portal to create, read, update, and delete (CRUD) account data, program details and conditions.
  • The ability to maintain simple DR programs and schedules.
  • Communicate price data with EiEvent (simple via live real time price feed, or from a spreadsheet, or entered directly in web portal.)
  • Create and call a DR event (EiEvent)
  • Allow customers “opt out” of the client application and at the server portal (EiOpt).
