MORGAN HILL, CA, April. 24, 2012: The OpenADR Alliance, a nonprofit corporation created to foster the development, adoption and compliance of a Smart Grid standard known as Open Automated Demand Response (OpenADR), today announced the successful testing of the first servers and clients based on the OpenADR 2.0a profile standard. Using the new OpenADR Test Tool developed by QualityLogic, OpenADR members Akuacom, a unit of Honeywell; EnerNOC, IPKeys Technologies, and Universal Devices successfully tested their client and server devices, helping to further refine the standard and increase its ability to lower the cost, improve the reliability and accelerate the speed of automated demand response implementations for the smart grid.

The “Smart Grid” - digital networks connecting utilities, power-delivery systems and buildings - is designed to eliminate the overtaxing of the power grid. The OpenADR 2.0 technology is based on the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS) and builds on the successful OpenADR 1.0 specification supported by more than 60 organizations worldwide. Through the OpenADR 2.0 standard, the OpenADR Alliance will provide utilities, Independent System Operators (ISOs), regulators, and controls suppliers with a selection of certified products for cost-effective demand response implementation.
“We hosted several PlugFests over the past six months to help members develop the first generation of interoperable products based on OpenADR 2.0,” said Rolf Bienert, technical director of the OpenADR Alliance. “As we get closer to formal certification testing, we’ll continue to see the smart grid come to life with big improvements in energy efficiency on the grid and in the energy users’ homes and offices.”

The process of finalizing the OpenADR standard involves the qualification of the initial implementations and the validation of the test harness. Both objectives were met using the now validated OpenADR 2.0a test tool. The test event involved three Virtual End Nodes (VENs or client implementations) and two Virtual Top Nodes (VTNs or server implementations). All products passed extensive testing from more than 180 test cases. Upon release of the final test tool, Intertek – the official test service provider - will initiate certification testing using the validated test harness to run tests on candidate devices. The test event was held in Knoxville, TN, coinciding with the Automated Demand Response and Ancillary Services Demonstration Project kickoff meeting hosted by the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI). The utilities, ISOs and regulators participating in the EPRI event were able to get a preview of the first OpenADR 2.0a compliant products during the test event.

Motorola Subcontracts IPKeys to Develop, Design and Configure MPLS Backhaul Network for Tennessee Highway Patrol

Solana Beach, California. March 12, 2012. Motorola Solutions, a global leader in providing integrated communications solutions and embedded electronic solutions, has awarded IPKeys Technologies, LLC with a specialty services contract for their State of Tennessee Highway Patrol project.

Motorola has been called upon by the State of Tennessee Highway Patrol to provide and implement a radio system and microwave-based Multi-protocol Label Switching (MPLS) backhaul network. IPKeys will assist Motorola in the design, staging, integration, testing, and implementation of the final MPLS solution.

This MPLS network, created by IPKeys, will provide the Tennessee Highway Patrol with a statewide communications network supported by a private transport. Based on leading network technologies and the use of microwave as the physical layer transport, this new public safety network will feature fast convergence, high availability, expandability, and Quality of Service (QoS).IPKeys, a Motorola specialty sub contractor, will work to Motorola as the prime contractor. The State of Tennessee Highway Patrol project is expected to be completed in October 2012.

What is EIOS?
EIOS is an open source implementation of the EiEvent service found in the OpenADR 2.0 Profile of the OASIS Energy Interop™ 1.0 standard. EIOS is intended for utilities and others interested in a rapid “first look” at the OpenADR 2.0 standard without need to license commercial software. This standard was created in alignment with federal Smart Grid efforts to provide a single, open standard for energy related communications. This work is based in part on research conducted under NIST contract SB134110CN0148. The IPKeys Energy Interop Open Source (EIOS) system uses a Service-Oriented Architecture. EIOS uses loosely coupled web based services to provide various capabilities (services) to the users.

EIOS Features
• A web portal to allow users to create and modify an account, subscribe to a price feed, demand response (DR) events, set a participation schedule and perform OPT IN/OUT.
• An administrative portal to create, read, update, and delete (CRUD) account data, program details and conditions.
• The ability to maintain simple DR programs and schedules.
• Communicate price data with EiEvent (simple via live real time price feed, or from a spreadsheet, or entered directly in web portal.)

OpenADR Alliance Demonstrates Interoperability With the new OpenADR 2.0 Smart Grid Standard

Morgan Hill, CA, Nov. 9, 2011. The OpenADR Alliance, a nonprofit corporation created to foster the development, adoption and compliance of a Smart Grid standard known as Open Automated Demand Response (OpenADR), today announced the successful completion of an interoperability test event – a step that is critical for implementing the OpenADR 2.0 standard for demand response in commercial, industrial and residential customer applications. Alliance member Kansas City Power & Light (KCPL) hosted a two-day PlugFest event, which provided early implementers of the OpenADR 2.0 standard an opportunity to test their products for interoperability with other members of the Alliance.

During the event Alliance members conducted a series of tests that included connectivity between servers and clients, and event scheduling, cancelation and modification -- all key elements in basic OpenADR 2.0 implementations. Members of the OpenADR Alliance participating in the PlugFest included: Akuacom, a unit of Honeywell, EnernNOC, Intertek, IPKeys, Johnson Controls, Open Access Technology International, Inc. (OATI), QualityLogic and Tendril. “The positive outcome among participants at last week’s PlugFest brings us closer to our goal of finishing the basic OpenADR 2.0 profile by the end of the year,” said Rolf Bienert, technical director of the OpenADR Alliance. “These member events foster the collaboration necessary to ensure the rapid deployment of the OpenADR 2.0 standard which will help ensure grid reliability throughout the industry.”

What are the ANSI C12 Standards?
For over ten years, the utility industry has been using optical port communications, defined by ANSI C12.18, and telephone modem communications, defined by ANSI C12.21, to get metering data, defined by ANSI C12.19, from the field to the “back office” or meter data management system. While the two communication protocol standards have been employed to great success, a standard method for using true “network” communications for exchanging this data was missing. ANSI C12.22 is a standard for interfacing to data communication networks; its creation also updated the optical port and modem communications standards for these “Smart Meters”. This set of standards offers the industry an open and comprehensive “protocol suite” to transport the newly revised data standard, ANSI C12.19. The ANSI C12.23 Compliance Testing standard for C12.18, C12.19, C12.21 and C12.22 is in early draft. ANSI C12.22 does not cover metrology data.

Field Tests
IPKeys developed a Conformance Testing Guidelines document for Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) meters (excluding C12.18 and C12.21) for the C12.22 protocol for data communications network. With this guideline in hand, we validated our approach in testing exercises using real-world AMI meters and deployed commercial off-the-shelf software to perform test protocol at various utility companies that use different meter manufacturers, network technologies and head-end software. The use of standards for many aspects of the Smart Grid, including meters, will accelerate the deployment and ongoing development of management technologies for smart meters, allow for easier development of Smart Grid components, greater collaboration among products and applications, and ultimately lower the cost barriers to development and deployment of new technologies.

IPKeys has selected Gamebase USA’s Gamebryo LightSpeed development system to create counter-IED (C-IED) simulations for US Forces. LightSpeed will be used in IPKeys’ critical tasking with the Federal Government, specifically with the Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization’s Technical Gaming Team (JIEDDO TGT).

Improvised explosive devices (IEDs) are one of the primary threats to U.S. service members operating overseas. The Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization (JIEDDO) was created to aggressively and rapidly find, develop, test and deliver counter-IED (C-IED) capabilities for our armed forces. “At the tactical level, insurgents have proven skilled at quickly adapting to the US forces C-IED procedures by altering their IED designs and deployment methods. IPKeys did an extensive evaluation to ensure that any technology we use provides the capability to rapidly incorporate the very latest tactics, techniques and procedures,” said Mark Pappas, President for IPKeys Technologies. IPKeys is a premier licensee of Gamebase USA and plans to integrate Gamebryo LightSpeed into its IED Gaming and Modeling Environment (I-GAME) as part of its ongoing work with the United States Department of Defense. IPKeys announced today it successfully demonstrated a prototype of key web services in the evolving OASIS Energy Interop™ 1.0 standard at Connectivity Week 2011, as part of its efforts under a contract with the National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) to support the acceleration of the development of Smart Grid standards, including development of a pilot Real-Time Utility Pricing system based on emerging standards.

“On behalf of IPKeys, I am delighted to announce the successful demonstration of an Energy Interop (EI) prototype at Connectivity Week,” said IPKeys Managing Director & CFO, Robert Nawy. Mr. Nawy noted that “The scope of our Connectivity Week prototype included:

OpenADR Alliance Developing Interoperability Program For National Demand Response Standard

Morgan Hill, CA, May 4 2011. The OpenADR Alliance, a nonprofit corporation created to foster the development, adoption and compliance of a Smart Grid standard known as Open Automated Demand Response (OpenADR) is showing significant progress in its goal to certify interoperable demand response products by the end of this year. With membership growing from 4 to 31 in six months, the OpenADR Alliance is experiencing enthusiastic support throughout the Smart Grid ecosystem. Recognizing that Smart Grid standards are critically important for interoperability and to the development of interoperable products, the OpenADR Alliance recently issued two Requests for Proposals (RFPs) targeting companies that supply test tools and testing and certification programs through laboratories. The first RFP encourages vendors to submit bids to develop a test tool allowing companies to test OpenADR 2.0 compliant products. The second RFP encourages test labs to bid on providing conformity and interoperability testing and certification for OpenADR 2.0 compliant products. The OpenADR 2.0 compliance program will be based on the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS) Energy Interop Standards that will include OpenADR profiles. The testing and compliance program will follow the Smart Grid Interoperability Panel’s (SGIP) Test and Certification Committee’s (TCC) Interoperability Process Reference Manual (IPRM).

The OpenADR Alliance Technical Committee is also developing feature-sets and test cases for the OpenADR 2.0 standard that is nearing completion from the OASIS.. The OpenADR 2.0 standard builds on the successful 1.0 specification supported by over 60 companies worldwide. “The landmark ruling from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) that assigns equal value to ‘negawatts’ and megawatts in wholesale energy markets, reinforces the importance of OpenADR in American Smart Grid development,” said Mary Ann Piette, chairwoman of the OpenADR Alliance and research director for PIER Demand Response Research Center at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab (LBNL). “Members of the OpenADR Alliance are working quickly to get a testing and compliance program in place by the end of the year. This program will help the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in the deployment of interoperable Smart Grid standards.”

In the six months since the OpenADR Alliance launched, more than 32 members from the utility, non- profit, government and corporate organizations as well as individuals have joined the Alliance, demonstrating industry-wide support of the OpenADR standard. IPKeys Announces Contract Award to Support Acceleration of Smart Grid and Cyber Security

IPKeys announced today that it has been awarded a contract by the National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) to support the acceleration of the development of Smart Grid standards. This project was established by NIST with funding through NIST and the Department of Energy (DOE) using American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds. “This program represents a significant opportunity to leverage IPKeys core competencies in Smart Grid Communications and Cyber Security on a national arena - that involves interworking with diverse entities that include government, utilities, research organizations, universities, and commercial enterprises,” said Robert Nawy, Managing Director & CFO, of IPKeys. ◦ provide a secure portal to host images, test references and communication interfaces to check conformance to identified standards;

IPKeys Announces Modeling & Simulation for IED Scenarios for Naval Air Weapons Stations, China Lake

IPKeys, as a subcontractor to Lockheed Martin, will support The Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division (NAWCWD) by bridging capability gaps in the Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization’s (JEIDDO’s) research and development efforts. The mission includes testing and evaluating counter-IED technologies and systems developed to detect, defeat and destroy IEDs safely and quickly at a distance, with an emphasis placed on accomplishing this without placing the troops in danger. Lance Scott joined the IPKeys team in July 2010 and will be supporting Army ASA(ALT) (Assistant Secretary of the Army (Acquisition, Logistics, and Technology)) System of Systems Engineering (SOSE) directorate. Lance will develop and maintain a comprehensive knowledge management process that facilitates collaboration between ASA(ALT) SOSE, Army Program Executive Offices (PEOs), Project and Product management offices. Lance is a retired LTC Army officer and has over 20 years of progressively responsible management experience in the Department of Defense (DoD). Bob Womack joined the IPKeys team August 2010 as Senior Business Development Manager based in NJ and will be primarily focused on their Municipal Technology Services business and related areas. Bob previously worked for Computer Associates “CA” for 9 years and from 2005 to 2007, served as CA’s senior manager accountable for global homeland security/public safety solutions; where he worked with C4ISR/homeland security/public safety-focused partners, including IT application providers, global communications manufacturers, and large federal systems integrators.

The Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA) announced the installation of 126 new video surveillance security cameras at Jordan Downs, Nickerson Gardens, Imperial Courts and Ramona Gardens public housing developments. The cameras will be linked into a video system monitored by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). Existing cameras at Avalon Gardens, Mar Vista Gardens and Pico Gardens public housing developments will also be connected to LAPD’s monitoring system. The $6.8 M project is led by LAPD and is seen as a major tool to combat crime. The project will be paid for through funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. IPKeys has been contracted by Motorola for the HACLA project to provide expertise in communications design, consulting, configuration and installation of the backbone network for the video surveillance system as well as all networking components at the various sites, integration to LAPD and HACLA data centers. Burbank Water & Power Announce IPKeys Successfully Designed and Installed Wireless Mesh POC as Core Element of Smart Grid Initiative

Burbank, California. May 31, 2010. Burbank Water and Power (BWP) and IPKeys announced that IPKeys’ has successfully designed and installed a wireless ‘mesh’ proof of concept (POC) as a core element of BWP’s Smart Grid Initiative. The 60 node mesh system is based upon wireless broadband mesh radios and will be used as the utility’s private distribution area network to deliver high-speed communications between the utility, utility applications and utility customers.
  Investments in BWP’s Smart Grid Initiative total $60 million, $20 million of which is being funded by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. BWP’s Assistant General Manager Fred Fletcher, commented, "For over three years Burbank has sought a smart grid "middle mile" concept that would link the meter mesh networks, the demand response network, energy management networks, the electric vehicle networks with the utility networks and the networks of the associated grid operators. This wireless network in conjunction with the Burbank fiber network creates a middle mile network that is fast (less than 20 milisecond), is secure (complies with federal security standards), and has the bandwidth and ability to prioritize traffice for future yet undefined applications. To see this performance for real, not just on paper, is very exciting. We are now working to deploy this across all of Burbank."
  The DOE Smart Grid funding has enabled BWP to accelerate its implementation and expand the project scope which will eventually include other Smart Grid applications such as distribution automation and power outage management. IPKeys Selects Emergent’s Gamebryo Lightspeed for Counter-IED Simulation Development

LightSpeed will be used in IPKeys’ critical tasking with the Federal Government, specifically with the Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization’s Technical Gaming Team (JIEDDO TGT). Improvised explosive devices (IEDs) are one of the primary threats to U.S. service members serving overseas. The Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization (JIEDDO) was created to aggressively and rapidly find, develop, test and deliver counter-IED (C-IED) capabilities for our armed forces.

“At the tactical level, insurgents have proven skilled at quickly adapting to the U.S. forces counter-IED procedures by altering their IED designs and deployment methods. IPKeys Executes New Sub Agreements with Leading DoD for Prime Contractors - Gains New Contract Vehicles

Shrewsbury, New Jersey. August 10, 2008. IPKeys announced today that the past three months have charted the completion of several major subcontracting and teaming agreements with leaders in the DoD contracting sector. “Executing our strategy in obtaining these new contract vehicles with established prime contractors, provides synergies with the current subcontracts we have with LSI/EG&G on the Rapid Response (R2) Contact, and Apptis for its DISA contract, providing IPKeys with significant new avenues to provide our Information Assurance, Systems Engineering, Program Management and Software Development services,” Pappas added. As a result of these contracts, IPKeys is tasked to perform Systems Engineering and Program Management Services on the INSCOM, S3, ENCORE, CEOSS, R2 and DISA Contracts.
