Senior Web Services Engineer

Job Description

Our client is seeking a Senior Web Services Engineer or Architect. The customer’s approach is a functionally-based model-driven engineering approach that requires knowledge of engineering and architecture methodologies, frameworks, and artifacts. This ranges from high-level presentation drawings, to UML and other engineering artifacts, as well as architecture artifacts such as those provided by the DoDAF framework.

This applicant will be responsible for the ensuring the architecture, design, and implementation of the system engineering process with a focus on analyzing the existing architecture and proposing a TO-BE architecture to produce testable new web service capabilities with a focus on security requirements in a highly visible set of web services requiring a high degree of data integrity and data protection. The applicant will work with industry leading tools and technology in bringing together data from multiple locations and ensuring that the customer will have secure access when they need to see it with full identity management. The applicant will also be involved in architecting new capabilities into the overall set of business capabilities. The applicant will be working be working with a small, highly efficient team of web developers moving the customer from older technologies to the desired end state using services, web semantic technologies and cloud computing.

This is a full time position for a Web Services Engineer or Architect based in the Northern Virginia area. This position will play a key role in enhancing our overall set of capabilities with a solid focus on application security controls. This role spends a significant amount of time proactively architecting requirement-based, testable security solutions into the data integrity layer of the entire set of services that provide capability to our customer’s stakeholders.

• Establishing the security aspects with a leading team of professionals to deliver high quality applications with a high customer adoption rate

Technical & Managment Skills

• Design or development of web services as a replacement for stovepipe systems
• Design or development of security requirements into a product
• Experience dealing with customers and end-users
• Well-developed skills in written and oral communications including group presentations, group facilitation and one-on-one consultation.
• Ability to collaborate, establish and maintain credible and influential relationships at all levels.
• The ability to routinely multitask from the tactical to the strategic activities in a fast paced environment.

Qualifications Required

• BS or BA degree in Computer Science is related field is required
• 7-10 or more years of experience in a related field is required
• 5 years of Architecting, Designing, or Coding SOA enterprise web services is required
• 5 years of Architecting, Designing, or Coding enterprise web security experience is required
• Must include at least one year of work experience Architecting, Designing, or Coding any of the following is required:

- Authentication, or
- Authorization, or
- Access Control, or Auditing for
- Non-Repudiation is required
- Work experience with Encryption


• Experience with more of the above is a plus

Qualifications Desired

• CISSP, CISA, CISM, Security+ or other security certification is highly desired
• Object Oriented Programming is desired preferably in C#, C++, or Java
• Microsoft or similar Certifications for Web Services development is desired
• Penetration Testing of software is desired
• Experience with Standards, such as the ISO/TEC 15408 Common Criteria for Information Technology Security Evaluation , for Security Testing of software systems is desired

Familiarity with the following technologies a plus:

• Application support
• Security services using open source or DoD accepted tools
• Back end technologies
• JBOSS EAP, BRMS, SOA Platform, or similar platforms
• SAML, or similar standards and methodologies
• Use of UML highly desired
• Use of DoDAF, TOGAF, FEAF or other enterprise architecture frameworks highly desired
• Project scheduling in an Agile environment desired
