PdM CREW

Product Manager Electronic Warfare and Product Manager, Counter Remote Controlled IED Electronic Warfare

The US Army, Program Manager Electronic Warfare and Product Manager, Counter Remote Controlled IED Electronic Warfare (PdM CREW), Army, which is one of Program Executive Office, Intelligence, Electronic Warfare and Sensors’ primary electronic warfare programs, has the critical mission to acquire, deploy, train and maintain the CREW family of platforms designed to defeat the IED and ultimately safeguard our Warfighter so they may conduct mission operations.

Countering deadly improvised explosive devices (IEDs), or roadside bombs, has been a major imperative for US and Coalition forces over the past several years. Radio-initiated, remotely controlled IEDs have received the most attention. The US military has fielded thousands of electronic jammers that block the transmission of radio-frequency signals to prevent those types of IEDs from being detonated by insurgents or enemy forces using cell phones, garage-door openers and other wireless devices. These active jamming systems typically scan for Radio Frequency signal transmissions across programmed frequency bands or specific frequencies and automatically jam any transmission they detect silently in milliseconds, transparent to the user.

CREW related technologies are used, and in some cases shared, by most of the Armed Services and other Federal agencies. The cost to train on these devices can historically be expensive and it is essential that to field the most units and keep costs down, efforts that have been funded and lessons learned be shared across our US Military and Federal sectors to maximize efficiencies.
