Responder Assessment Commander Trainer (ReACT)

IPKeys LVC Studio, creators of the acclaimed I-GAME Counter-IED simulation training platform, developed the Responder Assessment Command Trainer (ReACT) simulation prototype to train first responders across multiple agencies, disciplines, and jurisdictions. ReACT helps trainees learn the protocols, behaviors, methods and approaches to handle complex urban environment emergency response scenarios. Instructors can build customized training scenarios that simulate the actual areas where trainees will be working. Built on the acclaimed I-GAME simulation platform, ReACT focuses on the interactive environments pertaining to urban emergency response.

Training with ReACT

Instructors can quickly create custom training scenarios in major urban environments using the ReACT Integrated Editor. ReACT allows instructors to tailor training of first responders with accurate representation of emergency scenarios including active shooter/coordinated attack, train derailment, explosive device, crowd control, high rise building fire, and multiple vehicle pile up. Scenarios can be saved to a library for future reference, reuse, and/or distribution. This allows for on-demand replay and/or sharing of particular executed scenarios. An existing scenario can be modified to create any number of “what if” variant scenarios. Instructors can easily alter first responder positions, change key scenario elements, and replay the events. This rapid iteration of scenarios and the ability to change any key elements greatly enhances the ability of instructors to reinforce essential concepts, methods, and best practices.

The technology used in ReACT places first responders directly into a cinematically-realistic simulation of the devised urban emergency environment and scenario so that they can learn new and existing techniques and best practices characteristic to each responder role. Responders can try various methods of communication and collaboration across responder roles to see how they affect the capability or safety of other responders and/or civilians.

The ReACT scenario 3D visualizations create a realistic, point of view experience for each personnel team member allowing for skills development that will be leveraged in real-world, similar scenarios. ReACT includes a library of scenario performance metrics including responder and civilian movement patterns, location of hazards, and victim detection that instructors can use to assess the skill level of trainees.

ReACT provides an immersive training simulation experience with complex, highly-customizable urban environments and scenarios. Instructors can design scenarios to train proper techniques and run rehearsals and virtual testing. This type of simulation-based instruction increases the probability of personnel training on their own given the game-like challenges and will greatly reinforce classroom training.

Engineered from the ground up with Unreal Engine, ReACT provides state-of-the-art major urban environment emergency scenario simulations for first responder training. A wide variety of emergency scenarios can be easily created, modified to generate multiple “what if” variants, and saved to a scenarios library for future reference and ongoing training purposes.

Establish familiarity of procedures, techniques, protocols, best practices, and so on for responder personnel and provide decision-making rehearsal for trainees.
Throughout the execution of every mission, ReACT tracks and records pre-selected metrics. Following the completion of each emergency scenario, these metrics are displayed for each player and instructors can review and assess performance of trainees against the metrics to determine level of course absorption and efficacy.
Performance metrics tracked by ReACT during an emergency scenario simulation include movement patterns, location of hazards, and victim detection. Examination of these statistics aid the instructor during After Action Reviews and personnel assessments.
The 3D visualization and cinematic precision in ReACT creates realistic urban environments, sounds, replication of disaster visuals, and so on that allow trainees to interact completely in the simulated environment as though they were in the actual environment.
